IBM Turns To Video Marketing

“No more long, cumbersome marketing documents – no more boring presentations. Video is how companies and business should communicate.”  Mark Leaser, Worldwide Offerings Manager, IBM Software Services for Lotus

IBM gets it.  IBM understands video is a powerful tool for businesses to communicate with both prospects and customers.  Online video platform, vzaar has published an interesting case study extolling the value of video for business.  The case study reveals IBM is using video “externally to promote and market their assets and solutions worldwide. The video messages are designed to help customers select, purchase and use the appropriate business solutions.”

“Our current generation IT decision makers understand the video language and often don’t have the patience to wade through a white paper or technical presentation. To properly reach them, information needs to be presented in a lively, colorful and high-energy mode that can only be conveyed via video.”  Mark Leaser, Worldwide Offerings Manager, IBM Software Services for Lotus

Leaser goes on to say companies should turn more and more to in-house video productions rather than outsourcing and using overpriced video production companies.  Easy for IBM to say.  The company employ roughly 400,000 employees and has revenues approaching $100 billion per year.  That’s 100 billion with a B.  Video productions done right in-house are great but they come at a cost.  Video production equipment, software  and training costs add up but the real cost is employees dabbling in projects that keep them from doing their real jobs for days, weeks or even months at a time.  Many companies could probably get pretty good at video production after they learn lessons from the  first 5, 10 or 15 videos.  However, sometimes it just makes sense to outsource  and let professionals do what they do best.  You could probably also roof your house given the right time, training and materials.  The trick is to find a quality roofer that does an excellent job at a fair price.  The same goes for video production.
